BACKGROUND:
INNOWOOD products provide excellent water resistance in comparison to natural timber. INNOWOOD screening installed at the Sydney Wharf project in 2007 stands in impressive condition as of the recent re-visit in 2019. After over a decade of cyclical wet and dry environments of rising tides in the Sydney harbour, the product demonstrates extreme durability with little-to-no maintenance.
THE CASE:
Water resistant does not always equal water-proof. Our products can suffer if they are not handled correctly. In a recent case, the builder stored our cladding material outdoors and without adequate ventilation, trapping natural moisture. The builder later found that there were noticeable colour changes on the edges of the cladding boards. After investigation we realised that although the cladding is water resistant, the shift in colour is a result of moisture trapped in the skin of the composite cladding.
SOLUTION:
We used a heat gun to accelerate the drying process. Within one minute, the concerned area returned to normal colour. If the material is to be installed externally in sunlight, the water stain will dry and disappear naturally. Please see the video below for explanation.
CONCLUSION:
Since 2005, INNOWOOD products have been installed on thousands of projects around the world. They have proven the test of time and serve as perfect examples to demonstrate the product’s supreme durability. It is still important to handle and install the products with care. We have detailed procedures and precautions in our installation manual along with a care and maintenance manual readily available on our website.
